Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe Tour
The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe train is a narrow-gauge steam train that steams through
gum and pine tree plantations, hugs cliff edges and sharp bends, crosses over
bridges and winds through lakes and forrests before finally crossing the 2Km
bridge that spans the Knysna Lagoon. It is at Wilderness where the train enters
some of the most scenic terrain of coastal lakes and dense indigenous forest.
This is a day trip between the town of George and Knysna taking 3 hours each
way. Passengers enjoy the delightful scenery of the Garden Route with its fern-covered
hills, deep gullies studded with wild flowers and lakes which attract bids in
their thousands. There is also a stretch of track along the shores of the Indian
Ocean with views of golden beaches, cliff faces and the mouth of the Kaaimans
River before entering the town of Wilderness.
