The Western Cape Winelands are a scenic and
enchanting region of high mountains and fertile valleys, planted with
orchards and vines. Nestled in the valleys are elegant Cape Dutch manor
houses and charming wine estates.
South Africa has over twelve recognized wine routes extending
to the Karoo and way into the Northern Cape, but the area known as the
Winelands is restricted to the oldest wineries within a 60km radius of
Cape Town. The district contains the earliest European settlements each
with its own wine route.
On the hillsides and in the valleys around these towns
you will find a perfect blending of traditional Cape Dutch Architecture
with the landscape.
The Winelands are best covered in your own car to savour
the pleasure of the beautiful countryside and the impromptu stops you
will want to make along the way and the diversions you will be tempted
to make.
There are over 100 wine estates in the Winelands region
and when planning your trip, don't forget that although wineries offer
tastings, many offer a lot more, such as restaurants, picnics and horse
riding. We have chosen some of the best regions and estates for you to
select from - enjoy!
